Report: A Visit to Josef Bachner

Forestry in Austria’s Styrian region, much like elsewhere, is deeply connected to nature and sustainable practices, which are key to forest preservation. This picturesque Austrian region, known for its vast forests and rugged terrain, poses significant challenges for forestry workers. It was here that we first visited a satisfied foreign user of Tajfun forestry machinery, Mr. Josef Bachner. At his farm in Altenmarkt near Sankt Gallen, he successfully combines dairy farming with forestry. We joined him in his forest to witness firsthand how our machines make his work easier under demanding conditions and to learn about his personal efforts to sustain his forests for future generations.

Josef Bachner, the proud owner of 35 hectares of forest, shared his long-standing experience with Tajfun equipment. In this region, both forestry and dairy farming are common activities, but the working conditions are far from simple. “Our land is quite steep, and two-thirds of our forest is so difficult to access that we rely on cable cranes for timber extraction. We focus our forestry machinery on more accessible areas where we can handle the work ourselves,” Josef explained, adding that the more challenging terrain is left to forestry contractors who specialize in timber extraction using cable cranes.

Josef’s first encounter with Tajfun was in 2006, when they purchased their first remote-controlled logging winch. Since then, his work has not only become easier but also significantly more efficient. His latest acquisition, a forestry trailer equipped with a hydraulic crane, has become an indispensable tool in their daily forest operations.

Tajfun Machinery: A Key Partner in Timber Harvesting

Josef emphasizes the vital role Tajfun equipment plays in their work: “We harvest around 150 cubic meters of wood annually. Without our winch and the forestry trailer with the crane, this would be nearly impossible. The machines are incredibly reliable, and I can’t imagine working in the forest without them.”

Their forestry practices are focused on sustainability. Harvested areas are quickly reforested, creating mixed forests that are more resilient to pests. However, this is no easy task, as they face challenges such as severe wind damage in recent years and bark beetle infestations.

Reliability, Durability, and User Experience

As a trained mechanic, Josef carries out regular maintenance and repairs himself, with the help of his son Alexander, the future heir to the farm and business. Despite this, he praises Tajfun’s after-sales support: “Whenever I have a question, the specialists at Tajfun’s Austrian representative are always quick to respond. Spare parts delivery is also very fast.”

Josef is particularly pleased with the reliability of Tajfun’s machinery. The trailer with the crane allows for safe operations thanks to the seat module, which improves visibility and reduces the risk of injury. He is already considering a new investment – the more modern VIP PRO 90 winch with a return drum, which would further simplify their tasks.

Tajfun: A Partner in Sustainable Forestry

Our visit to Mr. Bachner was inspiring. His story is just one of many that demonstrate how Tajfun’s machines help foresters tackle everyday challenges while supporting sustainable forest management. Every time we meet a satisfied customer, we feel even prouder of our products and our contribution to the sustainable future of forestry.

At Tajfun, we believe that caring for nature is of utmost importance. Our machines are designed to make work easier and more efficient for users while promoting responsible forest management, ensuring that these forests are preserved for future generations.
